I think Edward’s attitude has changed greatly since he was thrown off the ship. For example, on page 71, the book says, “And Edward was surprised to discover that he was listening. Before, when Abilene talked to him, everything had seemed so boring, so pointless. But now, the stories Nellie told struck him as the most important thing in the world and he listened as if his life depended on what she said.” Another example is that before he was thrown off the ship, Edward never had any emotions. Then on page 50, the book says, “Far above him, the ocean liner, with Abilene aboard it, sailed blithely on; and the china rabbit landed, finally, on the ocean floor, face-down; and there, with his head in the muck, he experienced his first genuine and true emotion. Edward Tulane was afraid.” As you can see through these examples, Edward’s attitude has changed greatly since he was thrown off the ship.

I completely agree with you, Reagan. I also love how deep you got into the question.

I don't think that Edward's attitude changed much. First he thought about his hat when he was falling off the ship instead of Abilene. that is pretty selfish.

I think his attitude did change, even if the first thing he thought about was if his hat was on his head. At least he had emotion, I mean, he was scared for his life for the first time. Now, I don't know about you, but I think that is definitely a change for Edward, especially because before he hadn't a care in the world. That is, except when the dog, Rosy, carried him in his mouth and the other time when the new maid found him and cleaned him with the vacuum cleaner.

I think Edwards attitude did change. First, when Nellie dressed him up in a dressed he didn't start naming all the bad things about the dress he just said this isn't so bad at least I am not at the bottom of the ocean. Then, when Nellie told him stories he actually listened to them and he even learned how to enjoy her stories. Finally, when he was at the bottom of the ocean he started to want Abilene not criticize her for what she does and says.
